Fun, interactive and exploratory activities for high school students
UOW is passionate about offering opportunities for high school students to explore and get excited about different subject areas.
Activities include workshops, talks, tours, lab demonstrations and experiences that will add value to ideas and content taught in the classroom.
A range of excursion and incursion activities for Years 7-12 are available covering a broad range of subjects aligned to UOW courses.

Activities have been designed to:
- identify the connection between subject selection and UOW courses and future career opportunities
- provide fun, interactive and explorative experiences connected to the NSW school syllabus (wherever possible)
- help build an awareness of higher education options
- ensure students are prepared to make informed decisions about subject selection
- build connections with UOW academics and faculty staff
University of Wollongong (UOW) academics are not required to have a WWCC to fulfil their role at University. In all activities, UOW requires a Teacher to be responsible for the duty of care of their students while on a UOW campus and when a UOW academic is attending a school.
The NSW Department of Education view visiting academics as exempt from requiring a WWCC as it will be a one-off visit, in the company of a Teacher and invited as a guest speaker or presenter (unpaid). Schools are able to conduct an NTBE check in eCPC and sight a photo ID with the guest’s full name and DOB when they sign in. If you are interested in booking an academic to visit with your school, please let us know your WWCC requirements, we may not be able to fulfil your request should the school policy differ from NSW Department of Education advice.

One of our School Engagement Specialists will be in touch to discuss timing, delivery and group size.
Once a date is confirmed, you will be provided with specific information for the chosen activity and a template or link to register student details.
Teachers are responsible for supervising all students whilst on campus.
It is expected that all students will display behaviours that are respectful towards UOW staff and current students as well as facilities and equipment.
Most activities are delivered free of charge. A small fee for some activities is charged to cover material, facility or equipment costs.
Your School Engagement Specialist will be able to discuss travel options to UOW campuses.
We strongly encourage schools to explore using public transport options if feasible.
Information on getting to the Wollongong campus is available here: Getting to UOW Wollongong Campus
Information on getting to other UOW campuses is available here: Getting to other campuses
Once an activity has been confirmed, UOW will issue a risk assessment to the organising teacher.
UOW will require a list of students attending/participating in any activity. This information can be provided to UOW via the template provided or a link which can be given to students to complete independently.
Data will be stored according to UOW’s privacy policy.
UOW can provide a template excursion/incursion permission note if required. Please request this as soon as possible from your UOW School Engagement Specialist.
UOW recommends all students wear their school uniform when visiting campus.
Some activities may require specific protective equipment to be worn. For instance, close toed shoes may be required to attend experiences in the labs.
This will be communicated to the organising teacher at time of confirmation of activity. Please ensure this information is included on excursion permission notes.
Activities have been designed by UOW academics and faculty staff. In most circumstances, activities will be delivered by academic staff, supported by technical staff, PhD students and current UOW students.
Teachers are responsible for supervising their students. UOW staff and academics will also be on hand to help facilitate the various activities.
